about Craig
I think everyone that knew my Dad knew he was an efficient but equally fun man. On any given weekend, Craig would get up early to find something that needed to be done. He didn't like to sit still when there were things for him to fix, work on or do. As younger kids this drove us nuts because it meant our weekend mornings were filled with "projects" like washing the cars or mowing the lawn instead of sleeping in. He would often blast Neil Diamond through the house and had a hobby of going to test drive new cars as a Saturday activity.
Dad worked hard and truly did love his career as a chemical engineer. I think there was a part of his calculating brain that craved finding solutions to complex problems. We have joked that he made a spreadsheet for every major decision. In loving jest, we have wondered if he would want us to make the program for his funeral a spreadsheet as well. My Dad was dedicated to his church service, loved the Lord and never backed down in helping others. He spent countless hours dedicated to others and blessed the lives of so many around us. I'm lucky to have a Dad who has been an example to many.
Craig passed away on Memorial day, May 30th, 2016. He was out walking on a "practice hike" in preparation for a Boy Scout hiking trip he would be taking with my younger brother in just a few weeks. My Mom and brother were with him on this practice hike. As they were finishing up, just on the trail just behind our house, he suffered a heart attack.
As a family, we do not doubt how much he loved us. He was a good man who cared deeply. He loved my mother tremendously. He was her best friend, high-school sweetheart and father of her kids. He cared for us all so well and gave us wonderful experiences and opportunities in life.
There is nothing to replace a father, husband, grandfather, brother or son, of which he was all. We will miss him every day, during every holiday and for every life milestone that will happen for our family. But my Dad would want us to celebrate life, memories and the beauty of having family and friends near by. For those of you reading, we are lucky to have you in our lives with love and support during these hard days, and hard days in the future. Much love to you all.
